Artist born in Queens, NY. Daughter of a Brooklynite and Liverpudlian, who grew up in a hamlet of Carmel New York. Sherry Mayo undertook an independent study of BioArt at Boston College and after a brief time in medical research moved to Manhattan. Here she undertook an MFA at NYU and residency in the East Village for a decade. After working at the School of Visual Arts, Mayo again pursued further training this time at Teachers College Columbia University for a doctorate in Art & Art Education.
Research areas include: arts technology integration in higher education and combining both traditional and digital materials into studio practice. As a practitioner she is thoroughly engaged with painting, drawing, and digital imaging. In addition, Mayo has intensive studio experience with digital video.
Scholarly interests include: digital aesthetics, the cultural impact of digital technologies, consciousness, cosmology, and the post-human. Recent exhibitions include: "Love Beyond Borders" Brighton, UK and "Utopia: Dreams of Paradise and Possibility" Shenere Velt Gallery, Los Angelos, CA. Recent publications include: "The Prelude to the Millenium: The Backstory of Digital Aesthetics," The Journal of Aesthetic Education and "Implications for Art Education in the Third Millennium: Art Technology Integration," Art Education Journal.
Sherry Mayo is a dual citizen of the U.S.A. and the U.K.
